WEST POINT, Miss. – For the third straight day, Megan Schofill shot under par. However, on Wednesday, she was one of four Tigers to go low as Auburn carded a 9-under 279 as a team in the third round of The Ally at Old Waverly to finish in third place.
"Extremely proud of our team today," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "They fought hard the entire round and really put the pedal down when they had the chance. All of our players have been working overtime on their wedge game and putting, and it showed this week. We had many more opportunities to score and converted a lot more birdies.
"Overall, it was a great way to finish the fall season and wonderful to have two players finish in the top five."
Schofill was one of those players to finish in the top five as she fired a 71 (-1), her third straight round in the red, and ended up at 11-under for the tournament to place in a tie for third. The junior's 54-hole score of 205 was second lowest in program history.
Sophomore Anna Foster also shot under par in all three rounds, including a new career low 68 (-4) on Wednesday, to finish fifth overall. It's the second straight top 10 finish for Foster who has now shot below par in seven straight rounds dating back to the Cougar Classic.
Seniors Mychael O'Berry and Julie McCarthy each went under par as well Wednesday, making it four Tigers in the red. O'Berry fired a 3-under 69 to move up to 17th place at even par while McCarthy carded a 71 (-1) and finished tied for 51st overall. Both scores were season lows for O'Berry and McCarthy who combined to make seven birdies on the day.
Rounding out the Auburn contingent was sophomore Elina Sinz who saved her best round for last with a 1-over 73 in the third round to place 55th among individuals.
