JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Auburn women's tennis team wrapped up the fall season over the weekend with a doubles flight title Saturday and three singles wins Sunday at the UNF Invitational.
"We ended the fall season on a positive note today," Auburn assistant coach Megan Falcon said. "Always great to see our players respond after tough matches. We are pleased with our progress from September until now. We will continue to trust the process with hunger and tenacity."
Auburn's team of Carolyn Ansari and Madeline Meredith won their flight in doubles, defeating Gulihur and Oliveira of North Florida, 7-5, in the final. Auburn's Yu Chen also teamed up with North Florida's Annabelle Davis to earn a win over Tulane's team of Lavery and Theis, 6-3.
In singles, Auburn players dropped three semifinal matches Saturday but bounced back with wins in consolation finals Sunday. Ansari fell to UNF's Catherine Gulihur, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, before defeating Clemson's Cristina Mayorova, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Chen dropped a 7-5, 6-4 match to FSU's Lesedi Jacobs but came back to defeat UCF's Nandini Sharma, 6-3, 6-3. And Meredith fell to Clemson's Eleni Louki 6-1, 6-2 on Saturday, but earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over USF's Sierra Berry Sunday.
The spring season is slated to get underway Jan. 14-16 at the South Carolina Invitational. The home season begins Jan. 23 with a doubleheader against Furman and UAB.
