Weems breaks Auburn mile recordWeems breaks Auburn mile record

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Auburn track & field senior Presley Weems made Auburn history Saturday at the Meyo Invitational as she finished the women's mile with a time of 4:37.41, the fastest in school history.

The All-American finished second in the event to Olivia Howell of Illinois by a mere three-tenths of a second.

"Fantastic effort today from Presley today," Tigers distance coach Aaron Kindt said. "She has put in a lot of work this year to give herself a chance to run in these types of races and to have such incredible performances. Really happy to see some of that hard work pay off. I'm looking forward to watching her continue to progress these next few weeks."

The previous mile record of 4:38.66 was set by teammate Joyce Kimeli two years prior.

Kimeli also competed at the Meyo Invitational, clocking a 9:14.11 in the 3000m for a fifth-place finish. Her time etches itself into the record book as well as it is the fourth-best in Auburn history.

"Good indoor season opener for Joyce today," Kindt said. "We still have some work to do before championship season, but she did a great job competing. We're ready to get back at it this week."
