AUSTIN, Texas – Auburn track & field wraps up its stint at Texas Relays following a week that included 22 personal bests, two school records and a pair of marks that rank amongst the best in the world.
"I'm really impressed with the fight our team showed in a meet that can nearly resemble a national championship," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "We had a number of kids go toe-to-toe with some of the best competitors in the country. I saw a lot of improvement and lot of positive effort, which is exactly what we're looking for. All in all, this was the kind of meet we needed early into our outdoor season."
Senior Madi Malone got the party started at Mike A. Myers Stadium Thursday, crushing her own school record in the hammer throw for the first time since 2019.
Multis performer Alex Spyridonidis used a valiant effort through two days of competition to lift himself to a career-high decathlon total and the No. 2 total in the world. The senior was aided by personal bests in five of his 10 events.
Friday, another senior in Keira McCarrell pieced together an explosive series in javelin to become a Texas Relays Champion and assert the nation's leading distance as well as the No. 20 mark in the world.
Highlighting the final day of competition for the Tigers was freshman Aalliyah Francis. Francis was one of only three underclassmen to qualify for Saturday's 100m finals. In the finals, Francis finished eighth and tied the Auburn freshman record with a time of 11.39 seconds.
