AUBURN, Ala. – Heading east to Gainesville, Florida, Auburn track & field will continue its outdoor season with a stint at the Pepsi Florida Relays March 31 – April 2.
"It was very reassuring to see our team rise to the occasion last week," Tigers head coach Ralph Spry said. "It was a very challenging meet, but we did not fold under the pressure. This weekend will be another opportunity for us to put ourselves to the test against some elite competition. We're fired up to get out and keep our positive momentum rolling."
The Tigers come off a thrilling meet at the Texas Relays where they recorded 22 personal bests, two school records and pair of world-class marks.
Returning to action this week will be SEC stalwarts Erik Ebel, Dontavious Hill, Maura Huwalt, Keira McCarrell and Alex Spyridonidis, all of whom lead the conference in their respective event.
Spyridonidis will also compete as the reigning SEC Field Athlete of the Week after earning 7,917 decathlon points at Texas Relays, which stands as second-best total in the world.
Senior All-American Madi Malone will also return to the throws pit this week. Last time out, Malone shattered her three-year-old school record in the hammer throw to post yet another top-10 national mark on behalf of the Tigers.
On the running side, Auburn will be led by seniors Christopher Grant and Joyce Kimeli.
Sprinter Grant has proved to be the most dangerous for the Auburn men this year, leading the team in the 60m dash throughout indoor season as well as the 100m dash so far this outdoor season.
Distance runner Kimeli is set to make her outdoor debut in the women's 1500m Friday evening. The Eldoret, Kenya native is coming off a successful indoor season which resulted in a bronze medal finish in the 5000m at SEC Championships.
Competition at Percy Beard Track will commence Thursday with the men's hammer throw at 4 p.m. CT.
Live results for the meet can be found at DeltaTiming.com, and live streaming will be available for portions of Friday's and Saturday's competition via the SEC Network+.
