BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After absolutely dominating opposing pitchers to carry No. 18 Auburn softball to a road win at Mercer and a doubleheader sweep of Niagara, Bri Ellis was honored as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Ellis is the second Tiger freshman to win the award this season joining Jessie Blaine.

The Houston, Texas, native went on a tear at the plate with a 6-for-7 performance, leading the team with an .857 average across three run-rule victories for the Tigers. Three of Ellis's six hits were home runs. Ellis led the Tigers with a 2.143 slugging percentage and a .889 on-base percentage.

The freshman first baseman also totaled five runs scored, seven RBI, two walks and a stolen base while turning in a perfect defensive performance behind eight putouts.

Ellis drove in multiple runs in two of her three appearances and set a career high with three hits at Mercer on April 13.

Entering tonight's midweek tilt with a home run in last her four starts, Ellis stands 10th in Auburn single-season history with 16 total. She is just two home runs shy of tying Auburn All-American Kasey Cooper for the program's freshman record.

Ellis currently ranks second in the SEC and 10th in the country in total home runs. The slugger also ranks 10th in the conference with a .790 slugging percentage this season.
