Schofill’s 68 puts her in tie for lead after round one of Mason Rudolph Championship

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn senior Megan Schofill's bogey-free 68 (-4) puts her in a tie for the individual lead after the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Friday. Schofill birdied three of her last five holes at the Vanderbilt Legends Course to climb into the tie for first place. Friday's round marks the 12th time that Schofill has broken 70 in a collegiate tournament in her career.

"I played really solid today and remained bogey-free. One thing that I did well was just being patient. It was really windy today which made it tough to hit committed shots at times. I was able to play my game and take it one shot at a time," Schofill said about her opening round. "As a team, I believe that we are in a really good position going into the next two days. We need to keep in mind that par is a great score on every hole if the conditions are like they were today. We played some really solid golf and need to keep it going over the next two days."

Junior Elina Sinz posted a 1-under 71 which was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par three 12th hole. Sinz holed out with a 7-iron from 155 yards out and birdied the par three 3rd hole to lead the field in par three scoring at 3-under. Sinz also boasts a top 10 finish through one round, as she sits in a tie for tenth place individually.

Redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld fired a 71 (+1) in a round that featured an eagle on the par five 18th hole. Junior Anna Foster posted a 7-over 79 which also contributed to the team score.

As a team, Auburn finished at 3-over (291) which is good enough for fifth place in the field of 14. The Tigers finished ahead of four other Golfweek top 50 teams on Friday including sixth ranked Ohio State. Auburn is currently nine shots behind tournament leader Arizona (-6), two shots back of Kentucky in fourth place and holds a six-shot advantage over conference rivals LSU, Georgia and Alabama, each at 9-over par (296).

"It is difficult to have a low round when two players struggle like they did today. I'm very proud of Megan [Schofill], Casey [Weidenfeld], and Elina [Sinz] for their consistent play," Tigers head coach Melissa Luellen said after round one. "Casey hit the ball great but couldn't seem to buy a putt until the final hole. Megan was solid all day and closed strong by playing the final five holes at 3-under. Elina's round was highlighted by an ace that I got to watch, and the shot was pure! Tomorrow is moving day so we will be ready."
