AUBURN, ALA. – Auburn Swim and Dive kicked off 2023 in spectacular fashion on Wednesday on the plains knocking off No. 8/15 Texas A&M. Saturday the Tigers travel to Atlanta for a dual with Georgia Tech.
Action begins inside the McAuley Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. CT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Yellow Jackets are no strangers to the Orange and Blue. Back in November at the UGA Fall Invitational, both the men and women outswam Georgia Tech by more than 500 points.
On the men's side, it'll be another top-25 matchup with the Yellow Jackets entering the weekend at the No. 21 spot. Auburn, the No. 9 ranked team in the country is 5-0 in dual meets this season, including a 2-0 mark in the SEC. The Tigers are also 2-0 versus nationally-ranked opponents with wins over No. 17 USC and No. 8 Texas A&M.
Kensley Merritt, Meghan Lee, Lexie Mulvihill, Brynn Curtis, Emily Hetzer and Hannah Ownbey all picked up individual event wins for the Auburn women against Texas A&M and will be looking for more of the same on Saturday. Tiger relays were simply dominant as Daisy Platts, Anastasia Makarova, Claudia Thamm and Mulvihill captured the 200 medley while Mulvihill, Thamm, Emma Steckiel and Polina Nevmovenko cleared the way in the 400 free.
Nate Stoffle and Aidan Stoffle put on a show Wednesday inside James E. Martin Aquatic Center between the backstroke and butterfly events. Reid Mikuta continues to handle business in the breaststroke while Kalle Makinen and Mihalis Deliyiannis kicked off the new year on the right foot in the sprints.
Jeff Shaffer's diving crew will also be looking to continue its momentum this weekend. Both Ashlynn Sullivan and Conner Pruitt collected wins in the 3-meter on Wednesday against the Aggies. Pruitt, along with transfer Walker Creedon have combined for seven separate victories in 2022-23.
All seven of Shaffer's divers have already qualified for NCAA Zones in their respective disciplines.
