Clemson, SC. – Auburn track and field newcomer Arianna Sharpe broke the freshman school record in the women's 400m dash and the Tigers took home event wins in the men's and women's weight throw to highlight the first day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invite on the Clemson University campus. Friday's action also saw the Tigers establish nine new personal bests with six all-time top 10 marks being posted.
Sharpe clocked a time of 52.42 to break the 15-year-old freshman record of 52.95 previously held by Joanna Atkins in 2008. In the process, she posted the second fastest time in school history behind Atkins' school record of 52.24 set 12 years ago. Arianna's sister, Amirah, also ran well in the 400m, posting a time of 53.80 to become the No.6 performer all-time at Auburn.
Clocking 6.53 in the semifinal of the men's 60m dash, sophomore Favour Ashe moved up to No.3 in the nation this season and No.2 all-time in program history. Fellow underclassman, freshman Azeem Fahmi clocked 6.65 in the prelim and semi-final heats to qualify comfortably for subsequent rounds. Fahmi finished fifth in the finals, crossing the line in a new personal-best time of 6.62 to crack into Auburn's all-time list, checking in at No. 10.
In the field, senior All-American Madi Malone won the women's weight throw invite section with a mark of 21.75m/71-4.25 as teammate Maura Huwalt was third with a throw of 21.28m/69-9.75. Huwalt's mark was good for No.3 in Auburn history and a new personal best.
