AUSTIN, Texas – The Auburn track and field team closed out three strong days at the 2023 Texas Relays on Saturday with solid performances from the Tigers' field events and women's 4x400m relay team.
The women's 4x400m relay team of freshmen Abasiono Akpan, Arianna Sharpe and Amirah Sharpe, and junior Ashantae Harvey improved on their 3:35.07 in the prelim clocking 3:34.31 in the final. The quartet recorded a season-best to finish sixth overall with Harvey anchoring in 51.82.
In the field, senior Dontavious Hill cleared 2.20m/7-2.5 in the men's high jump to finish second among collegiates, third overall. Hill is coming off his impressive performance at the FSU Relays just a week ago clearing 2.24m/7-4.25 to lead the NCAA.
Senior Sanaa Barnes jumped a season-best 1.82m/5-11.50 in the women's high jump. In her season debut, Barnes finished fourth overall to become the number seven performer in program history.
Senior Maura Huwalt entered the ring twice Saturday in the women's discus and shot put events. In the discus, Huwalt threw 54.24m/177-11 which was good for eleventh place. Later in the day, the South Park, Pennsylvania native tossed one out 16.38m/53-9 to finish ninth.
