PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Auburn freshman Alyssa Quinones-Mixon broke her own freshman record in the pole vault as part of Auburn's three event titles on the final day of competition at the 2023 Penn Relays, Saturday.
Quinones-Mixon led the way for the Tigers in the college women's pole vault championship clearing a new personal-best of 4.13m/13-6.50. At her first Penn Relays as a collegiate athlete, Quinones-Mixon won the title with ease clearing the first three bars on her first attempt.
Just one week ago, at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Quinones-Mixon broke the outdoor freshman for the first time this season clearing 4.12m/13-6.25. The Texas native surpassed Jessie Johnson's record of 4.10m/13-5.25 set back in 2013.
No stranger to the relay carnival, Villanova transfer Sanaa Barnes cleared 1.83m/6-0 to best the competition in the college women's high jump championship. Barnes just missed clearing 1.86m/6-1.25 which would have equaled her personal best in the event. Her mark moves her up to number six in Auburn track and field history.
In the ring, senior Maura Huwalt won the college women's discus throw championship on her final throw of the competition. Huwalt launched one out 51.81m/169-11 to secure the win.
Dontavious Hill and Amy Warren brought home a pair of bronze medals in the college men's high jump championship and college women's triple jump championship. Hill cleared 2.15m/7-0.50 while Warren soared out 12.84m/42-1.50.
At the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, freshman Azeem Fahmi finished seventh in the men's 100m dash clocking 10.14 for a new collegiate best and become number ten in program history.
