STANFORD, Calif. – No. 9 Women's golf completed the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate Presented by Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Friday. The Tigers carded an opening round 293 (+9) and are in a tie for 11th on the team leaderboard. Redshirt sophomore Carys Worby led the team with a 1-under 70 and is in the top-10 individually.
"A great day for Carys, shooting under par and a nice hole out wedge for eagle on her 10th hole!" Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "What I was really disappointed in was our finish on the last two holes as we went from having a decent day to a poor day. The more one plays this course the more they learn. None of these girls have ever played Stanford Golf Course and I think they learned a lot that will help them play better tomorrow."
Worby's opening round 70 marks her best round of the season and places her in a tie for 10th place. The round was highlighted by the first eagle of her Auburn career on the par-5 first hole, which was her 10th hole of the day.
Senior Anna Foster recorded an opening round 72 (+1) that featured five birdies. Foster is in a tie for 32nd place through the opening round.
After a hot start that included two birdies in her first three holes of the day, Casey Weidenfeld shot 4-over (75) in her first round of the event and is in a tie for 61st on the individual leaderboard.
Ami Gianchandani recorded the final counting score for the Tigers on Friday with a 5-over 76. Gianchandani is currently tied for 72nd place individually.
Auburn will begin the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. CT and will be paired with players from Arizona State and UCLA.
