BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Madison Scheer might have had the best week of any outside hitter in the country. After a 2-0 weekend, including helping the Tigers knock off No. 9 Florida for the program's first win in Gainesville and first top-10 victory, Scheer was named both SEC Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week.
The Eureka, Missouri native was positively brilliant versus the Gators. Swinging for a career-high .667, Scheer put down 14 kills on 18 attempts with just two errors in just three sets.
Two days later, Scheer was back at it against South Carolina. She added 19 more kills on .372 hitting. In total, Scheer grabbed 33 kills on a monstrous .472 hitting, averaging 4.13 kills per set and 4.31 points per set.
It's the first weekly award for Auburn this season and the second time Scheer has picked up the honor in her career. She first earned the award last season after piling up 20 kills on .486 hitting across two matches against Alabama.
Head coach Brent Crouch and the No. 22 Tigers head out to Knoxville for a match with the No. 10 Lady Volunteers on Friday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. CT. Auburn returns to Neville Arena on Friday, Oct. 20 against Missouri at 6 p.m. CT for Dig Pink Night.
