COLUMBIA, S.C. - Auburn women's tennis completed the second day of the South Carolina Invite on Sunday, winning five of its six singles matches played against Wake Forest and one of its three doubles matches against South Carolina.

"Tennis is best of three sets for a reason!" Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley said after the conclusion of play on Sunday. "Something that makes our sport very unique is that in the middle of the match the score goes back to 0-0. The mental fortitude to sustain aggressive tennis takes time and reinforcement to develop. Our finishing mechanisms will be fine tuned as we compete throughout the season."

The Tigers began the day hot with five singles win in the morning wave against the Deamon Deacons. Ariana Arseneault, Adeline Flach and Kaitlyn Carnicella each earned their second singles win of the event on Sunday, while Ali DeSpain and Ava Espositio Cogan received their first singles victories of the spring. DeSpain and Cogan both came back to win after dropping the first set while Arseneault, Carnicella and Flach each claimed their matches in straight sets. Flach now has eight singles wins this season, which is the second-most on the Auburn squad.

Later in the day, Ali DeSpain and Ava Esposito Cogan picked up their fourth win of the season as a doubles pair and their second of the event by defeating South Carolina's Elise Mills and Shahar Biran 7-6 (5).

In the final day on Monday, Auburn is scheduled to play Wisconsin in singles matches beginning at 9 a.m. CT and wrap up the event with doubles matches against Wake Forest no earlier than 1 p.m. CT. Live video and live scoring of the final day in Columbia will be available online at track.tennis.
