RIO, GRANDE, Puerto Rico – No. 17 Auburn finished the opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic with a 4-over 292 on Sunday. Megan Schofill led the Tigers with a first round of 70 (-2), which places her in the top-10 individually.
Schofill's round featured four birdies, including two birdies on her final three holes of the day. The Monticello, Florida native now has six rounds under par this season and is in a tie for seventh place on the leaderboard.
Freshman Anna Davis, in her collegiate debut, and senior Anna Foster each fired a 73 (+1) at Grand Reserve Golf Club on Sunday. Davis is tied for the lowest par-3 scoring average in the field at 2-under. Both Tigers are in a tie for 30th individually.
Ami Gianchandani provided Auburn with its final counting score in the first round, as she recorded a 4-over 76 and is in a tie for 59th on the individual leaderboard.
Competing as an individual, Katie Cranston carded a 1-under 71. After being 2-over through her first five holes, Cranston battled back with four birdies and a bogey in the final 13 holes to finish under par. Rachel Gourley, who is also competing in the event as an individual, shot an opening round 73 (+1) and is in a tie for 30th place with Davis and Foster.
Similar to the opening round, Saturday's second round will be a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. CT. Auburn team players will be paired with players from Furman and Arkansas on hole No. 7 through No. 9. Live scoring of the second round will be available online at Golfstat.com and the GolfStat mobile app.
