AUGUSTA, Ga. – No. 12 Women's golf concluded a two-day event at the Valspar Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday in Augusta, Georgia. The Tigers finished fourth in the event with a 54-hole total of 865 (+1). The tournament marks the team's sixth top-5 finish of the season.
The tournament began with the first round and opening portion of the second round on Friday, then the remainder of the second round and the final round were played on Sunday.
"Proud of our seniors this week as Megan [Schofill] and Anna [Foster] both showed their maturity in difficult conditions today," said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. "We had some struggles on the greens and had far too many three-putts. This was our first time playing in the Valspar. Apparently, they had amazing greens and unfortunately got a disease so the surfaces were pretty rough. I hope they get them back because the course is a really cool Donald Ross layout."
Megan Schofill led the team individually, shooting 3-under over all three rounds. Schofill began the tournament strong with an opening round 68 on Friday and finished in a tie for sixth place individually. Schofill recorded 11 birdies over her three rounds in the event and earned her fourth top-10 finish of the season.
Anna Foster recorded a 215 (-1) during the event and two rounds under par to earn a tie for 14th place finish. Foster's final round 70 (-2) was highlighted by an eagle on No. 17 at Forest Hills Golf Club. The eagle marks her ninth career eagle at Auburn, which is the most eagles made by a player in program history.
Redshirt sophomore Casey Weidenfeld's 54-hole total of 220 (+4) placed her for a tie for 37th on the individual leaderboard while freshman Anna Davis finished right behind her teammate with a 5-over 221 and a tie for 39th place finish on the individual leaderboard.
Katie Cranston's opening round of 72 (E) included three birdies and counted toward the team score for round one. Cranston finished with a 9-over 225 over both days and placed in a tie for 58th individually.
"This bunch needs some rest as we have been on the road for 10 days," continued Luellen. "Back-to-back top-4 finishes is a result of solid play from this team, and we haven't played our best."
The Tigers will get a break before their next event, the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which begins on March 29th at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Georgia. Auburn won the tournament last season.
