BATON ROUGE, La. – Marley Raikiwasa of Auburn track & field broke her own freshman shot put record Saturday at LSU Invitational to highlight Auburn track & field's performances at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
With a mark of 16.79m, Raikiwasa earned a new collegiate best in the event. Earlier this season, she broke the previous freshman record with a mark of 16.25m at the FSU Relays. Raikiwasa finished the event in fourth and now holds the tenth farthest throw in the SEC.
Also competing in women's shot put, sophomore Megan Hague finished behind Raikiwasa in fifth. Hague also had a PR-worthy performance with a toss of 16.35m, which places her seventh on Auburn's outdoor top performers list. Her mark ranks her at No. 13 in the SEC.
Over the weekend, Hague and Raikiwasa both competed in discus throw as well. The former took home silver with a heave of 55.91m while the latter landed in fifth after throwing 47.32m.
Four Auburn men went to the line in the 100m dash. Freshman Kanyinsola Ajayi finished in second place, crossing the line in 10.06. Junior Makanakaishe Charamba finished seventh (10.16), junior Dario Matau in 11th (10.237) and sophomore Azeem Fahmi in 12th (10.240).
In the men's 110m hurdles, freshman Ja'Kobe Tharp won the event with a time of 13.40m.
Charamba joined Tharp on the winner's podium, taking gold in the 200m (20.11). Matau finished in fourth (20.45). Racing in the outdoor 200m for the first time, junior Favour Ashe took sixth (20.59).
Junior Luke Roberts and sophomore LeBron Bessick both delivered solid performances in the men's 400m. Roberts had a PR in the event at 47.88. Bessick had an outdoor PR, crossing in 46.95.
For the women's sprints, junior Chanté Clinkscale had a PR in the 200m with a time of 23.50.
In the 400m hurdles, graduate student Lalah Hasbrouck finished seventh overall, delivering a season's best performance in the event (58.51).
Graduate student Shaniya Holley had a silver medal performance in javelin throw. The Auburn, Alabama native threw 49.70m on her fourth attempt.
For shot put on the men's side, sophomore Matthew Rueff threw 18.27m, which was good enough for fourth place. Sophomore Grant Griffin finished in seventh with a mark of 17.02m.
In the women's 1500m, sophomore Gené Coetzee and senior Samantha Rogers took the top two spots in the event delivering collegiate best performances. Coetzee claimed gold with a time of 4:24.76 and Rogers finished quickly behind her in second (4:25.38).
Racing in the 1500m for the second time this outdoor season, freshman Nickson Chebii established a new PR and took home silver in the event (3:47.75).
In the men's 800m, sophomore Davis Plowden picked up a new PR with a time of 1:49.22 to finish sixth. Junior Louis O'Loughlin finished just ahead of Plowden with a time of 1:49.03 to take fifth. Competing for the first time in the 800m, freshman Max Hardin crossed the line in 1:50.42 to take tenth.
