CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 6 Auburn is one of the 15 teams to make the cut after Sunday's third round of the NCAA Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa Champions Course in Carlsbad, California. The Tigers are in seventh place with a 54-hole score of 876 (+12). Senior Megan Schofill recorded her best round of the tournament on Sunday with a 2-under 70.

"It was a rough day out there and we had a very colorful scorecard!" Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. "On a positive note, as bad as we played we still have a chance to win the golf tournament. We have nothing to protect and will only go out there with 100 percent commitment and see how the chips may fall."

Schofill, who began her day on the 10th tee, moved up 25 spots on the individual leaderboard during the third round and had a lot of success on her opening nine. The senior recorded back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 before picking up another birdie on the par-5 18th hole to make the turn at 3-under. Only one player in the field had a better round that Schofill on Sunday and her three-round total of 215 (-1) places her in a tie for 13th place individually.

After a difficult first two rounds, sophomore Katie Cranston provided a counting score for the Tigers in round three with a 2-over 74. Cranston, who celebrated a birthday on Sunday, carded a couple of birdies in her lowest round of the championship.

Senior Anna Foster ran into trouble on her first nine, shooting 5-over. However, the senior played steady at even par on the second nine to finish the round with a 77 (+5).
Freshman Anna Davis shot 8-over (80) to provide Auburn its final counting score of the day.

On Monday, the Tigers will play for one of the eight spots in the match play portion of the NCAA Championship. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 8 seed, the No. 2 seed playing the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed playing the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed playing the No. 5 seed in match play. Three rounds of match play will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday to decide the national champion.

Auburn will begin the final round of stroke play just after 1:30 p.m. CT paired with players from Oregon and Arkansas. Golf Channel will have coverage of Monday's round from 5-9 p.m. CT and live scoring will be available online at Golfstat.com.
