AUBURN, Ala. – Five members of the Auburn softball program have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
Maddie Penta, Annabelle Widra, Amelia Lech, Rose Roach and Nelia Peralta were honored for both their academic and athletic successes over the 2023-24 athletic year. Penta advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 18. Auburn’s five honorees are the most in are the most in school history. With their selections, Auburn softball’s all-time total of academic honorees improved to 19.
Turning in a second straight All-American performance, Penta posted a 16-10 record in the circle behind a 1.90 earned run average. She led the SEC with 264 strikeouts and ended her collegiate career as Auburn’s all-time leader in wins (76), starts (122) and combined shutouts (20). She earned her degree in public relations in May.
A true utility athlete, Widra split time in the infield and the pitching circle for the Tigers. She totaled 22 hits, including two doubles and two home runs and added 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. In the circle, she held a 5-3 record with a 2.86 ERA.
The heart of Auburn’s offense, Lech led the team with 37 RBI and 12 home runs. Of her 28 hits this season, 18 went for extra bases. Lech scored 17 runs and was strong defensively at first base with a .989 fielding percentage.
Roach started 36 games at second base for Auburn. She tallied 17 hits, including a double, added nine RBI and six runs scored while swiping a pair of bases.
A two-time CSC All-District honoree, Peralta totaled 32 hits and finished second on the team with 27 RBI. She added a .349 on-base percentage behind 23 walks and was 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts.
