AUBURN, Ala. – Eight student-athletes from the Auburn men’s and women’s tennis programs have received ITA Scholar Athlete honors, the Intercollegiate Collegiate Association announced. Additionally, both programs were tabbed as ITA All-Academic Teams.
Finn Murgett, Jake Kennedy, Nicholas Heng and Will Nolan from the men’s tennis squad each received the honor. Murgett recently graduated with a degree in business, while Kennedy and Heng are both pursuing a degree in business. Nolan is a rising senior studying exercise science.
Ali DeSpain, Ariana Arseneault, Ava Esposito Cogan and Selin Ovunc represented the Tigers’ women’s team on the list of scholar athletes. DeSpain received her graduate degree in administration in May with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. Arseneault also graduated in May with a degree in exercise science. Cogan completed her freshman year in the college of business while Ovunc is pursuing a graduate degree in communications.
The women’s program has made the list of ITA All-Academic Teams for nine consecutive years while the men’s team has earned the honor in each of the last five years.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 or higher for the current academic year.
A total of 1,059 Division I men’s tennis student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 1,573 Division I women’s tennis student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2024.
