AUBURN, Ala. — Two members of the Auburn soccer program, Jenna Sapong and Jeneva Hernandez Gray, are set to compete at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup set for Aug. 31 – Sept. 22 in Colombia.
Sapong laces up her boots to play for Ghana, while Hernandez Gray represents Team Canada.
A native of Johns Creek, Georgia, Sapong joined the program last year as a goalkeeper and redshirted the 2023 season. Hernandez Gray, a top midfielder out of Coquitlam, British Columbia, signed to play for the Tigers for the 2024 season but will defer enrollment until January of 2025 due to international team obligations.
Canada opens the U-20 World Cup facing face France at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 31. Hernandez Gray and company will attempt to advance from a Group B that also includes Brazil and Fiji.
Ghana was selected to Group E alongside Japan, New Zealand and Austria. They open with Austria Monday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. CT.
Following the group stage matches, the top 16 sides will advance to bracket play.
