WEST POINT, Miss. – Auburn concluded the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule on Wednesday at The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi. The Tigers finished the event 3-over (867) and in fourth place out of 16 teams.
“Rather disappointed in our performance this week,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the tournament. “In the final round we had too many big numbers, which really stung after a great start. The team is upset, which I am happy about because sometimes you have to feel the pain. This will set us up for a productive winder season to get prepped for spring.”
Sophomore Anna Davis finished the event in a tie for third, meaning that she finished within the individual top three in each of the team’s four fall tournaments. Davis, who fired a 65 on Tuesday, was 3-under before a difficult final two holes of the afternoon in the final round. The sophomore shot 73 (+1) on Wednesday for a 54-hole total of 210 (-6).
“Anna Davis played 53 great holes with minimal mistakes,” Luellen said about Davis. “Making triple on the last hole is a tough pill to swallow, but she will learn from it. Such a solid fall season for her!”
Junior Katie Cranston earned a top-25 finish at 2-over for the tournament (218). Cranston started the event with an opening round 68 (-4) and followed the strong start with rounds of 72 (E) and 78 (+6).
Redshirt junior Casey Weidenfeld fired a 3-over 75 in the final round and finished the tournament 6-over (222) and in a tie for 29th place.
Carys Worby’s final round was off to a hot start with an eagle on the second hole followed by a birdie on the par-3 third hole. The redshirt junior ultimately carded a 74 (+2) and finished the event tied for 36th individually at 8-over (224).
Anne Fernandez, the freshman competing as an individual, tied her teammate on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 36th place in her first collegiate tournament.
Balma Dávalos Guaita bounced back after a difficult second round to shoot 74 (+2) in the final round. Dávalos Guaita was 4-over through her first seven holes of the day, but battled back with four birdies, including three consecutive on the back nine. She finished the day with a couple of bogeys and finished the tournament tied for 52nd.
With the fall now complete, Auburn will prepare for the spring portion of its schedule. The first event of the spring will be the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
