AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Mary-Grace Segars and junior Caroline Fredenburg of the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team were named SEC Riders of the Month for February, the Southeastern Conference office announced.
Segars was recognized for her efforts in Fences, picking up the first conference honor in the event of her career. Fredenburg earned recognition in Horsemanship and it was her second of the season.
Segars put together a 3-0-0 mark in Fences in February, winning two Most Outstanding Performer honors. She finished with a 13.7-point margin of victory average and averaged an 88.3 over three meets.
The Canton, Georgia product started things off with a win vs. Minnesota Crookston (Feb. 7), helping the Tigers sweep the Golden Eagles in the event. She scored a career-high 93 and bested her opponent by 27 points to win MOP.
Segars followed with an 89-78 victory vs. No. 9 UT Martin (Feb. 8). Her 11-point win gave her MOP for the second-straight meet.
She capped the month with another Fences win, besting her No. 8 South Carolina (Feb. 15) opponent. The Tigers swept the Gamecocks with Segars playing a big role as she topped her opponent, 83-80.
Fredenburg, of Straughn, Indiana, also finished 3-0-0 in February, earning three MOPs in Horsemanship and averaging a 74.75 between the three meets.
She led off the month with a 74-70 win vs. Minnesota Crookston, guiding the Tigers to a sweep in the event and earning her first MOP of the month.
She followed with another win the next day, besting her UT Martin opponent and winning MOP, 74.5-72. She capped the month with a 75.75-72.5 SEC win over South Carolina, helping the Tigers sweep the Gamecocks and taking MOP.
