BELLEAIR, Fla. – No. 14 Auburn finished the second round of stroke play at the SEC Championship on Tuesday at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Tigers are in fifth place as a team with a 36-hole total of 565 (+5).
“We got our poor round out of the way,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “Very proud of how all the Tigers locked in on the last three to four holes to salvage the round. Tomorrow, we start on the back nine like we did in round one, which we like. The greens will be nice and fresh and the wind will be down a bit. Start strong. The mindset is to get very focused on where we want to hit, not where we don’t. Mental game will need to be on cue. I have full faith that we will climb the leaderboard.”
Auburn carded a 289 (+9) in the second round on Tuesday. Eight teams will advance to the match play portion of the tournament after Wednesday’s final round of stroke play and two teams, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, are currently tied for the final spots at 7-over for the event (567).
Auburn sophomore Anna Davis remained in the top five after round two, as she followed her opening round 65 (-5) with a second round 72 (+2) on Tuesday. Davis is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard and four shots behind the tournament leader, Eila Galitsky of South Carolina.
Carys Worby also shot 2-over in her second round (72) with a couple of birdies and is in a tie for eighth place on the individual leaderboard at 2-under for the event (138).
Casey Weidenfeld carded a round of 2-over on Tuesday while Katie Cranston provided the Tigers’ final counting score in round two, a 3-over 73. Both Weidenfeld and Cranston are tied for 41st individually at 5-over for the tournament (145).
Auburn will begin the final round of stroke play on Wednesday morning at 7:10 a.m. CT alongside players from Ole Miss and Tennessee. In the match play portion of the event, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Thursday while the finals will take place on Friday.
Thursday afternoon’s semifinals will be streaming live on SEC Network + while the finals will be broadcast on SEC Network on Friday. Live scoring for each round of stroke play and match play will be available at Golfstat.com.
