BELLEAIR, Fla. – Auburn completed the third round of the SEC Championship on Wednesday with a final round 288 (+8) at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Tigers’ 54-hole total of 853 (+13) resulted in a ninth-place finish at the end of the stroke play portion of the championship. The top eight teams at the end of Wednesday’s round have advanced to the match play portion of the championship.
“Pretty disappointed in the day,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “Four balls in the water on our ninth hole put us in a hole to try to dig out of. All we can do is feel the pain, learn from it and prepare for regionals.”
Carys Worby and Anna Davis both finished the tournament in a tie for 13th place individually at even par (210). Worby shot 72 (+2) with three birdies in her final round while Davis carded a 73 (+3). The finish marked the seventh top-20 finish of the season for Davis and the fourth for Worby.
Casey Weidenfeld had the best round of the day for Auburn, as she shot an even par 70 on Wednesday. Weidenfeld finished the tournament in a tie for 37th place on the individual leaderboard at 5-over (215).
Auburn freshman Balma Davalos also contributed a counting score for the Tigers on Wednesday, a 3-over 73. Davalos finished the event tied for 65th individually.
The NCAA regional selections will be announced on Wednesday, April 23 at noon CT on Golf Channel.
