COLUMBIA, S.C. – Auburn was defeated by No. 4 Texas in the quarterfinals of the 2025 SEC Men’s Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon by a 4-1 score at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, South Carolina. The Tigers claimed the doubles point before dropping four singles matches.
Texas won at the No. 2 position to begin doubles, but Auburn fought back on courts one and three. With the match tied at three at the No. 3 doubles position, Auburn’s Jake Kennedy and Hamza Nasridinov won each of the next three games, including the final two on deciding points to claim the match 6-3.
On the top singles court, Will Nolan and Alex Frusina of Auburn and No. 9 Lucas Brown and Timo Legout of Texas both held serve the full match, leading to a tiebreaker. Nolan and Frusina took an early 5-3 lead before Brown and Legout battled back to tie it at six. The Auburn duo then won the next two games to claim the tiebreaker 8-6 and clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.
Auburn earned two first set wins to begin singles from Nicholas Heng and Hamza Nasridinov with Texas picking up the other four. Texas then earned a straight set victory at the No. 6 position to tie the match at one.
Texas then claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court three as well as a 6-2, 6-4 singles win on the top singles court to jump out to a 3-1 lead.
At the No. 2 singles position, Frusina jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set over Sebastian Gorzny, but dropped a close set 7-5. Gorzny then won the second set by the same score to edge out a 7-5, 7-5 win and clinch the match victory for the Longhorns.
The loss concludes the Tigers’ SEC Championship run and drops their record to 19-10 overall this season.
